Jane’s Declassified (Online) School Survival Guide

Image
Hey Lil Sprouts!                   So the 'Rona definitely got a little more serious than I originally thought (LOL). Please do your best to pay attention to the CDC's updates, and do your part by practicing social distancing and good hygienic habits. Now to the point. A lot of us have had our school's closed and must now embark on a journey of remote learning...(a joke).  If you didn't know before, online classes are way more difficult than in person classes, because it's ALL. ON. YOU. With that being said, I put together some tips for you all! Here go my lil survival guide: -Your availability does not equal your free time! Schedule the specific times you’ll be available to work on your assignments by class. Be sure to include specific due dates and times. Affirming Speech for Manifesting Peace

Image
Say these words aloud and find power in them... I will not fall prey to anger. I will not let anger control me. I will not allow anger to rebuild walls I've deliberately torn down. My hurt will not overwhelm me. My pain is not all encompassing. My peace does not have to be fragile. I am bigger than any adversity. I don't have to beg for respect and there's no need for me to tolerate disrespect. I shouldn't have to exist in competitions for love and support. Love is patient, kind and understanding. Love is forgiving. I forgive those who've hurt me, in order to move forward leading with love. Love is not manipulative, spiteful or ruled by pain. I do not have to settle in love. I do not have to choose love over loneliness if love isn't serving my purpose. It is okay to stand up for the things I believe in, even if that means I have to go forward alone. I am worthy and deserving of the standards by which I decide my wants and needs. I set standards for how I wa...

A Note on Self Care

As a gentle reminder, we are all different people. Self care has no clear cut set of instructions/actions. What works for me or you may not work for everyone else. This is not an instruction manual, rather, a perspective. Transition can be difficult. Fall is here, which means school, work and all of your responsibilities are probably hitting you full force. While it may be a generally exciting time, it can also be mentally and emotionally draining. In consequence, it could be straining your relationship with yourself and others.  Self care is the answer, but what does that look like? Self care isn’t (as the internet might have you believe) all bubble baths and face masks. It is a choice you have to make every day to respect yourself and your purpose on this earth. You are the first person who needs to love, value and respect you. That is a standard you have to establish. Establish a Routine: A sense of consistency and regularity can work wonders for some...

PS001: From A Whisper To A Scream

Image
Poetry Sessions 001: From A Whisper To A Scream It is so difficult to ask for help when you feel like your feelings or troubles will impact your loved ones in a negative way. Sometimes, their response might even make you feel worse than you felt when you decided to confide. This in turn makes it even more difficult for you to try again, which creates a vicious cycle. Oftentimes I think it's easy for us to feel as though we are burdening other people with our feelings or our issues. Even though we know we need help, it's hard to ask it of people who can't necessarily empathize or don't particularly understand. It's also difficult when we have people in our support systems who might personalize our issues and be offended or hurt by them. I know for me personally, (someone who has been diagnosed with depression and anxiety for years), it's hard to feel as though the people in my support system should have to deal with what seems to be my never-ending neg...
